about

During 2020 I wrote three short works each of which have their own musical concerns. The three works are united in that they are inspired by recent discoveries that our universe is "vibrating". A very exciting new concept, string theory, posits that our reality is vibrational-the result of countless sub-atomic, one-dimensional objects called strings. Each sub atomic string is rotating across multiple dimensions, as if playing its own "note". This mass of vibration we sense as matter or energy: light or sound, gravity and weight.
In this vibrating universe work, I create textures where the same melodic shape repeats itself simultaneously at different speeds or tempos using a different instrument for each version.
The kaleidoscopic effect sounded like a form of elation.

The photo has nothing to with the music! It is one of the few photos I have of myself in the 1970s. I seem to be working on some lines on paper.

The work is included in the "Golden Dolden Box Set" available under the "merchandise" tab. This box set includes all my music, scores, essays, and educational talks from 1984 to 2021.

The first 20 years I produced dissonant dense textures. Since 2000 more melodic. ... more
