about

Recent work for six instruments and pre-recorded tape. (digital medium). The work was commissioned by Ensemble Phoenix in Basel Switzerland. The live instrumentation includes: Violin, Flute, Trumpet, French Horn, Bass Clarinet and Cello. The pre recorded tape uses of different music instruments. I always think of the tape part as creating different sound worlds, or musical moods around the live 6 soloists.
The work continues my exploration of micro-tonality. In this case the octave is divided into 22 unequal steps which is based on combining two different harmonic series.
A shamanic journey is one that generally takes place in a trance state to the sound of music. The music in a shamanic ritual performance has the distinctive feature of discontinuity. Breaks may happen because a spirit is proving difficult to communicate with. This work is not a portrayal of a Shamanic journey or Shamanic music, but like all music, suggests a journey, in which discontinuity and trance are used to achieve an experience. It is hoped that this journey is a sunny happy experience.

The work is included in the "Golden Dolden Box Set" available under the "merchandise" tab. This box set includes all my music, scores and essays from 1984 to 2021.

The first 20 years I produced dissonant dense textures. Since 2000 more melodic. ... more
